I only made it up snowboarding a few times this season. But this day was notable, not only because of the heavy fog, but also because of the foot of new snow that fell the night before. Joining Ashley and myself on the hazy slopes was our friend Kate Wheeler. The three of us ripped up the tree runs with all the joy that comes with cutting through buttery, soft snow.

I’ve been snowboarding at Mt. Spokane a number of times, but when my family was in town we selected cross country skiing as an outdoor activity of choice. It’s a different perspective of the mountain compared to snowboarding—especially when you don’t have any edges.

Ashley and I finished off the trip to Coeur D’Alene Lake by spending our afternoon paddling over azure waves. We followed that up with a rigorous hike at sunset to catch the fading light over the water. All in all, a great close to a relaxing week at the lake.

My parents decided to rent a condo on Coeur D’Alene Lake this summer for a week long family gathering. While we had planned on several excursions and outings, various travel constraints and an emergency root canal for my mom kept us hanging out at the condo most days. Which relaxing by the lake is still pretty good.

One activity we were able to participate in was biking the Hiawatha Trail. The Hiawatha is a most enjoyable trail that leads you through tunnels and across train trusses in a fairly leisurely route. Because the trail is privately operated you should expect to pay about $18 for a pass and bus transport, money well worth it because the ride is really pleasant and the views are great.

I can’t really estimate how long the trail takes to ride because myself and a few other members of the family stopped regularly to take pictures. Although I did try to keep things going by taking quite a few shots while on the go. It works fairly well but framing is a bit of a challenge.

I took what was supposed to be a short snowshoeing hike with friends up at Tollgate. These photos are from the first half of the trip before we got a tad lost and then spent a couple hours walking out. Still a fairly fun trip. We just should have checked the GPS a lot sooner.

I discovered this location, future home of The Village wine tasting, a few months ago and have been wanting to do a shoot there every since. In particular I asked Ashley Akacich an accomplished ballerina if she would be willing to model. Our first attempt for the shoot, during the warmer summer months, fell through. Recently I tried again and secured permission from the owner a great guy named Craig who let use the space for the shoot. Also along to photograph was my friend Greg Fong. The space worked great, and Ashley did wonderfully. The only complaint was the blustery cold.

The following image was taken by position a medium format film camera pointed at Ashley and taking a photo through the viewfinder with my digital camera. I got the idea by watching Jeremy Cowart‘s presentation on Creative Live. The film camera was courtesy of Brent Bergherm.

This movie doesn’t really have anything to do with photography, but it does have some amazing biking prowess by Danny MacAskill coupled with some good cinematography. Check out the movie below and enjoy.
