Jara and Keigan’s wedding took place on the beautiful shores of the river near Post Falls, ID. The water set a perfect scene for a wonderful ceremony on a memorable day.

Sean really wanted senior portraits that looked across Spokane at dusk. There’s a little tiny park (more of a parking lot really) on South Hill that presents a wonderful vista of the city. We started with our first location under a bridge in the River Front park and timed our final location to catch the sunset and glowing lights.

Ashley and I finished off the trip to Coeur D’Alene Lake by spending our afternoon paddling over azure waves. We followed that up with a rigorous hike at sunset to catch the fading light over the water. All in all, a great close to a relaxing week at the lake.

Just a little ways out of Sandpoint, ID you can find the unique opportunity to visit Wolf People—a wolf education facility and habitat. Stop by their store at the right time and you might get to interact with a couple of wolf pups. But, pay for the tour and you’re guaranteed a close-up look at the 23 wolves which make up the pack—lucky patrons even get the chance to hold a wolf pup.

Each summer when my family gets together I’ve taken a portrait for my sister Stephanie (see previous years, here, here and here). The condo we stayed at this year offered an engaging little rock island right by the shore of the lake. The island worked great except it required submerging the light stand in the water. A task that my other sister, Laura, was drafted into overseeing. As reparations for her efforts, I took a few quick shots of her standing in the water as the sun sank behind the ridge line. We finished our shoot to the amused applause of our neighboring guests, who happily observed the shoot for their night’s entertainment — it’s always good to be appreciated.

My parents decided to rent a condo on Coeur D’Alene Lake this summer for a week long family gathering. While we had planned on several excursions and outings, various travel constraints and an emergency root canal for my mom kept us hanging out at the condo most days. Which relaxing by the lake is still pretty good.

One activity we were able to participate in was biking the Hiawatha Trail. The Hiawatha is a most enjoyable trail that leads you through tunnels and across train trusses in a fairly leisurely route. Because the trail is privately operated you should expect to pay about $18 for a pass and bus transport, money well worth it because the ride is really pleasant and the views are great.

I can’t really estimate how long the trail takes to ride because myself and a few other members of the family stopped regularly to take pictures. Although I did try to keep things going by taking quite a few shots while on the go. It works fairly well but framing is a bit of a challenge.

Katie and Brett’s wedding was extra special to photograph. Not only did we have a great, albeit brief, portrait session, but the sense of community really shined around this couple. After cheerful hymns and warm vows Katie and Brett shared their tender first kiss to the excited applause of the whole congregation.

Enjoy the photos I took from the wedding below. After you’ve finished, click over to the Essential Moments Photography Blog for Larry’s perspective and an expanded gallery.
